Islanders will have more chances to win great prizes during the ninth-annual Love our Lobster campaign that runs until June 26.
Love our Lobster is designed to create greater appreciation and demand for the top-quality lobster fished out of Prince Edward Island waters. When they buy lobster from one of 18 participating retailers, Islanders receive a chance to win prizes including weekend passes to the PEI Shellfish Festival and the grand prize of a private lobster party for 10 hosted by Chef Tyler Gallant.
“The Island’s lobster fishery helps keep our communities strong and contributes to our reputation as Canada’s Food Island,” Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Alan McIsaac said. “I encourage all Islanders to demonstrate what makes Prince Edward Island mighty by coming together and supporting our lobster industry and the hardworking individuals that make it successful through this year’s Love our Lobster campaign.”
New this year is a radio contest with Hot 105.5 FM called Ashley vs. the Streets: Seafood Edition. Callers to the Thursday morning show can guess whether Islanders on the street, the radio host, or both can answer a trivia question about the Island’s fishing industry. If the caller guesses correctly, they win a Love our Lobster prize pack valued at $150.
“Love our Lobster is a great promotion for our Island fishery and MR Seafoods is pleased to be a participating retailer again this year,” said MR Seafoods Manager Reggie Jameson. “We continue to participate because it is a great opportunity for us to showcase PEI’s famous lobster and lobster products and support the industry.”
Government’s balanced 2017-18 operating budget includes continued support for local food promotions and the Island lobster industry, which in 2016 was valued at nearly $386 million and employed approximately 5,000 individuals in the fishing and processing sectors.
