District 21 Candidate

District 14

Liberal MLA Gord McNeilly is seeking re-election for Charlottetown-West Royalty (District 14) in the 2023 provincial election.

“Prince Edward Island is at a crossroads,” said McNeilly, who has represented the district since 2019. “Residents are feeling the impacts from lack of access to an overburdened health care system, the pandemic, hurricane Fiona, rising inflation and a housing crisis. I want to continue to advocate for residents in my district to help them meet these challenges. The Liberals are a party that will focus on putting families first, bringing people together and supporting communities.”

McNeilly has advocated for his constituents on a number of fronts, including:

  • Seniors’ supports
  • Supports for persons living with disabilities
  • Housing, including both public and affordable housing
  • Promoting wellness
  • Providing recreational and active transportation trails throughout the district
  • Eliminating racism and discrimination
  • Working to support the expansion of the West Royalty Elementary School

“There’s still a lot of work to do, but together, we can make this province a healthier, more prosperous, diverse and equitable place,” said McNeilly.

McNeilly is currently house leader for the Liberal caucus, is the Chair of the Standing Committee on Health and Social Development and serves as the third party critic for wellness, social development and housing; mental health and addictions, justice and public safety; education and the status of women.

McNeilly is a fitness professional, has extensive experience in coaching and is a professional motivational speaker. McNeilly has been a community leader for more than 20 years. Most notably, he was instrumental in helping to establish the PEI Community Fridge which facilitates access to safe and nutritious food for the community, and he continues to support that service. He was the provincial fundraising chair for the United Way for three years, has been heavily involved with the Alzheimer’s Association, the UPEI basketball teams as a volunteer broadcaster, as well as many other local non-profit organizations.

He is bilingual and holds a degree in kinesiology.
