Charlottetown – Premier Wade MacLauchlan today announced that a Liberal Government will increase support for Island foster families.
“Foster families across Prince Edward Island open their homes to children who need a safe and nurturing home environment,” said the Premier. “Being a foster family is an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of Island children.”
A Liberal Government will increase the levels of compensation provided to foster families by $200 a month.
The number of foster families has steadily declined over recent years, with there now being fewer than 70 foster homes on P.E.I. Families provide short or long-term care for children up to 18 years of age. Foster families receive monthly compensation based on the need of the child and level of care provided.
The Premier announced that a Liberal Government looks forward to working with the Prince Edward Island Federation of Foster Families to recruit additional foster families to provide caring homes for Island children.
