Charlottetown – Premier Wade MacLauchlan today announced the Liberal Party will increase support for Island fire departments.

A number of government departments, agencies and first responders use the Provincial Integrated Communications System. The Premier announced that a Liberal Government will extend the province’s new emergency radio system so that all existing radios used by Island fire departments are replaced and connected to the new system.

A Liberal Government will provide the additional radios for Island Fire Services and support for the associated operating costs. The Premier said a Liberal Government will work with fire services to negotiate reasonable usage fees. Island Fire Services use radios to allow them to communicate directly with Island EMS while assisting with first response calls.

“Our firefighters act as first responders and work to ensure the safety of Islanders. A Liberal Government will ensure they have the right tools, including access to modern technologies, to help them do their job,” said the Premier.
