Sonny Gallant is currently a Liberal MLA and party critic for the portfolios of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture; Acadian and francophone affairs. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in 2007 and re-elected in 2011, 2015 and 2019. In 2017, he was appointed Minister of Workforce and Advanced Learning. He has also served as Government House Leader (2010-2017), deputy speaker 2015-2016 and has been a member of many legislative committees.
Sonny Gallant has been a member of the following Standing Committees: Fisheries, Transportation and Rural Development (former chair); Agriculture and Fisheries; Community and Intergovernmental Affairs; Health, Social Development and Seniors; Public Accounts; Education and Economic Development; Infrastructure and Energy; Rules, Regulations, Private Bills and Privileges. He has also served on the Operations Committee, the Legislative Management Committee, Treasury Board and Policy Review Committee (Chair).
Sonny Gallant has been active in his community, as former chair of the Miscouche Community Council, a leader in the Scout movement, board member of the Miscouche Legion Senior Citizens Home, and past director of the Acadian Purchase Trust. He has also spent many years coaching minor hockey and softball.
Sonny and his wife Linda are life-long residents of Miscouche. They have three sons, Chris, Nick, and Jonathan, and seven grandchildren.
