Former Town Councillor Gail MacDonald is announcing her intention to seek the Liberal Nomination for District 5 – Mermaid-Stratford.
“I have always been honoured to be a voice for our area, and I look forward to highlighting some of the issues facing our residents at the provincial level, including housing and access to primary care,” Gail said. “I’ve been a supporter of the Liberal Party my whole life and believe in the party’s history and expertise.”
Gail was first elected to Stratford Town Council in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. During her time on Council, she held various positions, including Chair of Recreation, Chair of Finance, and member of the Federation of PEI Municipalities. In addition, she was instrumental in the research and volunteer fundraising to see the completion of Stratford’s first skatepark. She was also supported by her Council to be an elected official on the national Board of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
Her past work experience includes a 37-year career with the Charlottetown Police Services as a 911 police dispatcher. Following the amalgamation in 1995, she went on to become the 911 Coordinator and Records Supervisor for the Department.
Gail MacDonald has been a resident of Stratford for over 44 years. She and her late husband raised their four children here.
